What Makes a Premium Pad Premium? It Is Not More Material. It Is Knowing Who It Is For.

2026-08-28

"Premium" is one of the most misused words in our industry. Many bosses say they want to make a premium product, but when you ask what that means, they say: use more SAP, more pulp, more layers.

I disagree.

After years of product work, I can see clearly: international brands are not necessarily the heaviest users of materials. Some local brands load every spec to the maximum and call it premium. But material volume is not product quality.

Take ultra-thin cores. China invented this technology. It is something the industry should be proud of. But walk through a trade show and every booth claims "ultra-thin." The core alone looks great. Add a topsheet and acquisition layer, and the whole product falls apart. Why? Because a product is not a collection of零件. It is a system.

Premium means precision. It means every decision — material, structure, packaging, messaging — serves one specific user group.

We split our own brands into three lines. One stays premium with high-quality raw materials and strict standards. One serves younger users. One targets extreme value. Each line answers to a different user, not a different cost ceiling.

Liquid sanitary pads are a good example. They contain no SAP, no pulp. To someone who judges by ingredient list, that looks like a downgrade. But for users who want lightness and a "barely there" feel, the product is exactly right. Every cost went into体感 — hand-feel, fit, discretion. It is expensive because it is precise, not because it is堆料.

Conversely, if you build a thick, heavy pad and sell it to users who want lightness, it will not sell regardless of how much material you used.

So premium is not "expensive." Premium is "precise." It is knowing exactly who you serve, then putting all your development budget into satisfying that group. The "high" in high-end is about positioning, about trade-offs, and about what you choose not to do.

If you do not know who it is for, no amount of material makes it premium. It is just expensive.

For brands building premium lines

A premium sanitary pad or menstrual pant starts with user definition, not material stacking. The right OEM partner helps you match structure, material, and messaging to a specific target user.

Nafei supports custom sanitary pads and menstrual pants across premium, mass, and value tiers. See how we structure OEM customization: Custom Sanitary Pads.
