LanCool Light · Brand Story

LanCool Light: a daytime pant you can change without undressing.

LanCool Light is the daytime arm of the LanCool range. The product answers a specific complaint that comes up in every market we sell into: changing a pull-up pant during a working day means taking off shoes, trousers and everything else. LanCool Light removes that problem with a refastenable side closure, then thins the core because a daytime product is changed before it reaches its limit.

Why A Lighter Arm Exists

The pull-up format has one obvious flaw.

Every disposable pant on the market solves the same problem the same way: an elastic waist that goes on like underwear. It works beautifully until the moment the product has to come off in a public bathroom.

01

The change problem

A pull-up pant requires removing shoes, trousers and underwear to change. In a workplace or a public facility that is not a minor inconvenience. It is the reason many wearers avoid the format during the day entirely.

02

Open, change, refasten

A side tab turns a full undress into a two-second operation. Open both sides, remove, position the new piece, refasten, adjust the waist. Outer clothing stays on throughout.

03

Then thin the core

A product changed every few hours does not need the capacity of an overnight pant. Thinning the core reduces bulk under clothing, which is the second complaint the pull-up format attracts during the day.

The side tab is not a new idea. It has existed in adult incontinence products for decades, where the same change problem is more acute. What is newer is applying it to a menstrual product aimed at a younger wearer who expects the product to look and feel like underwear rather than like a medical item.

That expectation changes the engineering. An incontinence brief can afford a visible closure and a clinical aesthetic because the user's priority is function. A menstrual pant cannot. The tab has to be flat enough not to show under leggings, quiet enough not to announce itself, and positioned so that refastening does not require looking in a mirror.

LanCool Light took three iterations to get the tab position right. The first version sat too far forward, which made it easy to reach but produced a ridge along the front of the hip. The second sat too far back, which hid the ridge but made it awkward to align. The production version sits at the side seam, slightly above the widest point of the hip, where it is both reachable and invisible under clothing.

The adhesive is the other half of the problem. A tab that holds too weakly opens during wear; one that holds too strongly cannot be refastened after the first open. LanCool Light uses a pressure-sensitive adhesive tuned for two or three open-and-close cycles, which covers adjustment after positioning and a single change within the same wear.

The Format

Three pieces, individually wrapped, two sizes.

The pack is built around carrying rather than storing. Each piece has its own wrap so a wearer can take one and leave the rest.

What thinning actually costs

A thinner pant is not simply a pant with less material. Removing pulp reduces capacity and also reduces the core's ability to spread liquid laterally, which concentrates the load in one spot and makes the product feel wet sooner even though it has not reached its limit.

LanCool Light keeps the pulp-to-SAP ratio close to the overnight pant and removes bulk from the core's thickness rather than from its composition. The result is a product that is thinner under clothing without behaving like a budget item.

Individual wrapping is the detail that makes the daytime format work commercially. A three-piece pack with a single outer bag is cheaper to produce and worse to use: once opened, the remaining pieces are loose in a handbag. Per-piece wrapping costs more per unit and produces a product a wearer can actually carry for a week.

The wrap also protects the tab. An exposed adhesive tab collects lint and loses tack, which is the most common cause of a tab failing on second use. A sealed wrap keeps the adhesive clean until the moment it is needed, which is why the closure performance in real use is better than a laboratory peel test would suggest.

Pack count is deliberately low. A ten-piece pack of a daytime product assumes the wearer will use it exclusively, which is not how the category is actually consumed. Most wearers rotate between formats depending on the day. Three pieces matches that behaviour: enough for a day out, not so many that the pack becomes a commitment.

Materials & Structure

Thin under clothing, soft against skin.

A daytime product is judged on two things that never appear on a specification sheet: whether it shows under clothing, and whether it makes noise when the wearer moves.

Topsheet

Through-air-bonded nonwoven with a velvet-like hand. The loft is what produces the soft feel, and it is also what keeps the surface from going flat under compression during a working day.

Core

Wood pulp with superabsorbent polymer, thinned in profile rather than reformulated. The ratio stays close to the overnight pant so lateral spreading still works.

Side barrier

Hydrophobic barrier material at the leg opening. On a thinner product the barrier does more work, because there is less core volume to absorb a lateral surge.

Side tab

Pressure-sensitive closure at the side seam, tuned for two to three open-and-close cycles. Positioned to be reachable without a mirror and flat enough to disappear under leggings.

The waist uses soft nonwoven with elastic strands rather than a wide band. On a thin product a wide band creates a visible line under clothing, which defeats the purpose of thinning everything else. Strand elastic distributes tension across a narrower strip and produces a waist that holds without printing through fabric.

Noise is the specification nobody writes down and every wearer notices. It comes from the back sheet and from the core's internal structure, not from the topsheet. A stiffer film rustles; a loosely bonded core crinkles. LanCool Light uses a softer film grade and a core lamination that keeps the layers moving together rather than sliding against each other, which removes most of the sound.

Thickness under clothing is a combination of the core profile, the fold and the waist construction. Getting one of the three right does not help. A thin core with a wide waistband still shows a line at the hip; a narrow waistband with a thick core still produces a visible bulge at the front. All three were tuned together on this product, which is why it took longer to develop than a straightforward capacity increase would have.

Fold direction is the fourth variable and the one a buyer never sees. Folding the pant so the tab sits on the outside of the bundle keeps the adhesive accessible but adds a layer of film at the fold line, which is visible under tight clothing. Folding it inward protects the tab and produces a flatter bundle, at the cost of a slightly more awkward opening. The production version folds inward, because a wearer opening a pack is already paying attention while a wearer standing in leggings is not.

The wrap material matters for the same reason. A clear film shows the product and reads as clinical; a matte film hides the contents and reads as a personal care item. Neither is objectively better, but the choice signals who the pack is for. LanCool Light uses a matte wrap because the target wearer carries the pack in a bag alongside a phone and a wallet, and a pack that looks like a medical supply is one she will hide rather than carry.

Where LanCool Light Is Made

Same lines as the flagship.

LanCool Light runs on the Nafei lines in Shanwei, Guangdong, alongside the rest of the LanCool range. The site has produced feminine hygiene products since 1998.

The side tab is the reason this product cannot be made on every pant line. It requires a tab applicator and a folding sequence that a standard pull-up line does not have. Running it in the same building as the flagship means the material supply, the quality system and the export documentation are shared, while the tabbing step stays on the equipment built for it.

That split also explains why the daytime format carries a higher per-piece cost than the flagship pull-up, even though it uses less material. The tab, the individual wrap and the extra applicator step all add cost that the thinner core does not offset. A buyer comparing the two on price alone will conclude the daytime product is worse value; a buyer comparing them on what the wearer can actually do will reach the opposite conclusion. The specification sheet does not settle that argument, and it is not supposed to.

Quality & Documents

Where a side-tab product fails.

The closure is the component most likely to generate a complaint, and it is the one most often skipped in a standard inspection plan.

ISO 9001

Quality management system covering production control, inspection and corrective action.

ISO 14001

Environmental management system for the site, covering waste, effluent and energy.

ISO 45001

Occupational health and safety management across the production floor.

Tab peel test

Peel strength checked on first open and after refastening, per batch, because a tab that passes once can still fail on the second use.

Export documents

Packing list, commercial invoice and certificate of origin prepared in house per shipment.

A standard feminine care inspection plan checks absorbency, dimensions, seal strength and pack count. None of those catch a tab that opens too easily on the second use. That is why the closure gets its own check: peel strength is measured on the first open and again after refastening, and the batch is held if the second reading falls outside the range.

The other failure that shows up late is adhesive contamination. A tab that picks up lint before wrapping loses tack, which produces a complaint that looks like a manufacturing defect and is actually a handling issue. The individual wrap is the control: as long as the wrap is intact, the adhesive is protected. Inspection therefore checks wrap integrity on every piece rather than sampling it.

Retention samples are kept per run. For a product with a mechanical closure, a retained sample is the only way to settle a dispute about whether a tab was defective or the wearer refastened it more times than the adhesive was designed for.

Market Versions

Where a daytime format sells.

The side-tab format performs differently depending on how a market thinks about the category. Three patterns show up repeatedly.

LanCool Light pack for markets where the pull-up format is already established
01

Established pant markets

Where the pull-up format is already the default, the side tab sells as an upgrade rather than as a new category. The pitch is convenience, not education.

LanCool Light as an entry format in markets where pants are still new
02

New pant markets

Where the format is still unfamiliar, the side tab removes the biggest objection before it is raised. A wearer who is unsure about a pull-up is more willing to try one she can take off easily.

03

Pharmacy channels

Staff-led retail rewards a product that is easy to explain. Open the side, change, refasten is a demonstration that takes five seconds at a counter.

The upgrade framing matters in markets where the category is mature. A buyer there does not need to be told what a menstrual pant is; they need a reason to switch from the pull-up they already stock. The reason is the change moment, and it is easier to demonstrate than to describe. Retailers who put a sample pack on the counter with one side open sell more of this format than those who rely on pack copy alone.

In markets where the format is new, the objection is different. A first-time wearer worries about fit, about whether it will feel bulky, and about what happens if she needs to remove it. The side tab answers the third worry directly and indirectly reassures on the first two, because a product that is easy to take off feels less like a commitment.

The pharmacy channel is where the format earns its margin. A shop assistant who can demonstrate the closure in five seconds converts a browser into a buyer more reliably than any pack design. That is why the stock pack carries a printed instruction on the side panel rather than only inside: the assistant reads it once and then repeats it.

Working With LanCool Light

How an order runs.

Six steps. The tab specification is confirmed at sample stage, because it is the one component that cannot be changed late without re-running the line.

1. Brief

Size, pack count, market and whether the stock Chinese pack or a private label pack is required.

2. Sample

About two days. The sample confirms tab position, adhesive strength and core profile together, since all three interact.

3. Artwork

Print-ready files checked against the bag dimensions, including the instruction panel that carries the closure diagram.

4. Production

25 to 30 days after approval. The tab applicator is set and verified before the run begins.

5. Inspection

Tab peel on first and second open, wrap integrity, core weight and pack count. Wrap integrity is checked on every piece.

6. Shipping

Export documents prepared in house. Carton dimensions and weights provided so freight can be priced accurately.

The starter minimum for private label work is 10,000 pieces per size. Because the pack holds three pieces, that is roughly 3,334 packs per size, a smaller commitment than the same piece count on a ten-piece pack.

Tab specification is the one element that should not be revisited after production starts. Changing adhesive grade or tab position means resetting the applicator and re-verifying the closure, which is a line stoppage rather than a parameter change. Buyers who want to adjust the closure should do it at sample stage, even if it costs an extra iteration.

Artwork should include the closure instruction. A side-tab product that arrives without a printed instruction generates support questions at the retailer, and those questions cost more than the printing does. The instruction is a simple two-frame diagram and fits on a small side panel.

The other packaging decision worth settling early is the wrap colour. A clear wrap shows the product and reads as clinical; a tinted or printed wrap hides the contents and reads as a personal care item. Neither affects performance, and the choice signals who the pack is for. For a daytime product carried in a bag, the printed wrap is usually the right call, because a pack that looks like a medical supply is one the wearer will hide rather than carry.

Questions Buyers Ask

Straight answers before you enquire.

The questions that come up most often on a side-tab product, answered the same way we would answer them in a call.

What is LanCool Light?
LanCool Light is the daytime arm of the LanCool range. It pairs a thin through-air-bonded topsheet with refastenable side tabs so the product can be changed without removing outer clothing.
What are refastenable side tabs?
Side tabs let a wearer open the pant at the hip, change it and refasten the sides, instead of stepping through the leg openings. They can be opened and closed more than once within a single wear.
What sizes does LanCool Light come in?
L and XL in the side-tab daytime format. The wider LanCool range also covers XXL, and that configuration is confirmed at sample review rather than assumed.
How many pieces per pack?
Three pieces per pack in the stock Chinese retail pack. Each piece is individually wrapped, which makes it practical to carry a spare for a daytime change.
What is the absorbent core?
A wood pulp and superabsorbent polymer core. The Light format carries a thinner core than the overnight pant because the product is intended to be changed within a normal daytime cycle.
Is LanCool Light for overnight use?
No. It is built for daytime wear and shorter change cycles. Buyers who need an overnight product usually take the standard LanCool pant or the NAFY ten-piece format.
Why individually wrapped?
Because a daytime product is often carried before it is used. Individual wrapping keeps each piece clean and compressed, and lets a wearer take one piece rather than the whole pack.
Can the side tabs be opened and closed twice?
The adhesive is designed for refastening within a single wear cycle, for adjustment and for changing. It is not intended as an indefinitely reusable closure.
Where is LanCool Light made?
At the Nafei plant in Shanwei, Guangdong, China, on the same lines as the rest of the LanCool range, operating since 1998.
What is the private label minimum?
The starter minimum is 10,000 pieces per size. Bag printing carries its own minimum, which depends on the bag specification and the number of printed colours.
Can I order LanCool Light in English packaging?
Yes. The stock pack is printed in Chinese; English and other languages are produced through the private label programme with your own artwork.
How does LanCool Light differ from LanCool?
LanCool is the flagship range covering day and overnight wear. LanCool Light narrows to daytime use with a thinner core and a side-tab closure built for changing away from home.
