I Tore Apart a Liquid Sanitary Pad. Here Is Why It Sells — and Why Some Users Call It 'Damp.'

2026-08-28

Liquid sanitary pads have sold well in recent years, and people keep asking what makes them different. Because I work in this industry, I took one apart to understand it.

Here is the conclusion: it sells well not because it uses more material, but because it is precise. It knows exactly who it is for.

Inside, the core is made from a single piece of multi-hole foam composite. There is no fluff pulp, no conventional SAP. Many people hear "no superabsorbent polymer" and assume the product is cutting corners. The opposite is true. The design targets high-end users who want a "barely there" feeling — comfortable fit, no bulk, elastic against the body. They do not need maximum absorbency because their flow and usage pattern are different.

The clever part is the surface. Because the core contains no pulp and no SAP, the topsheet cannot hold water. It has to channel fluid down quickly. If you used a normal cotton-like surface, the liquid would sit on top and the product would fail. So every layer is designed for one purpose: move fluid down, keep the surface dry, keep the fit light.

That is also why some users complain about "dampness." The same product feels perfect to one user and insufficient to another. It is not a quality problem. It is a fit problem. If you are used to traditional pads with high absorbency, a liquid pad can feel like it "cannot hold." For users who prioritize lightness and discretion, it is exactly right.

What I admire most is the precision. Every cost — R&D, consumer research, material — went into answering one question: who is this for? That is why it works.

A product does not succeed by stacking materials. It succeeds by knowing who it serves. Once that is clear, the rest follows.
