Period Pants Trial Order MOQ Guide for Private Label Buyers

2026-07-24

A trial order is how you learn whether a supplier's menstrual pants survive a real wearer — without betting a container. The trick is sizing the trial so it teaches you something instead of just costing less.

Why a trial order is not a small bulk order

A bulk run assumes the spec is locked. A trial exists to lock the spec. If you run a tiny version of a bulk order with no test plan, you've just spent money confirming you don't know yet. Build the trial around decisions: which absorbency, which size mix, which pack count.

Sample approval comes before the trial run

Approve a pre-production sample first — topsheet feel, leak guard at the leg, rewet after load. Only then commit the trial quantity. Skipping this step is how buyers end up with 2,000 units of the wrong waistband.

Size mix — don't guess from your home market

Asian, European, and Middle-Eastern buyers skew different on waist and hip sizing. A trial that mirrors your actual target demographic tells you far more than a copy of the supplier's default mix. Tell the plant who wears it.

Pack count and the launch math

Trial packs should match how you'll actually sell — 3-pack for purse, 5-pack for shelf, 10-pack for subscription. The trial is also your first packaging proof, so print the real artwork, not a placeholder.

The mistake I see most

Buyers ask "what's your MOQ?" before they've decided the spec. The answer is meaningless then. Decide the product, then the MOQ follows — and a supplier who quotes a tiny MOQ on a fully custom pant without a changeover caveat is skipping something.

Rule of thumb: a trial should be big enough to wear-test across your real size range and small enough that a wrong call costs a rounding error, not a quarter. Most private-label launches land the trial between a few hundred and a couple thousand units per SKU.

Questions buyers actually ask

What's a realistic trial MOQ for period pants?

It tracks how custom the spec is. A re-skin of an existing pant starts smaller; a custom core and waistband needs a longer run. Get the number after the spec, not before.

Should the trial use my real pack artwork?

Yes — the trial is your first print proof. A placeholder hides artwork problems until the bulk run, when they're expensive.

How do I pick the size mix?

From your actual target demographic, not the supplier default. Tell the plant who wears it and let the cut follow.
