Pads and Pants in One Specification Discussion

Pads and Pants in One Specification Discussion

Two people at a table, with more than one product family in front of them. It is an ordinary sampling photograph and a useful reminder: a conversation about a range still needs two written specifications.

A pad and a pull-up pants format are often bought by the same distributor and shown under the same brand. They are not made from the same set of parts. Sharing a logo does not mean sharing a core, a waistband component or a size grid.

Pads and pants share materials but not the same converting and fit requirements.

The fields that must be written twice

Size range, core specification, topsheet, backsheet, pack count and carton quantity each need an answer for both formats. If a brief lists one pack count for the project, we will ask which format it belongs to. An ambiguous line in a brief becomes an ambiguous sample kit.

In our experience the most common delay is not a missing material choice. It is a brief where the size range is clear for pads and unstated for pants. The sample can be made for one and only assumed for the other.

One artwork system, two printed panels

A shared visual identity is sensible. It keeps a launch coherent on a shelf. The printed information still differs, because the format, the wearing direction and the size designation differ.

Our team separates the design review from the specification review for exactly that reason. A buyer can approve a colour system once, then approve two sets of printed wording. Treating them as one approval tends to produce a second round of artwork corrections.

A short checklist before sampling

Two specification lines, two pack counts, two carton quantities, one shared artwork system. That is the minimum we need to send a sample kit that answers the actual question. One photograph of a mixed table is a good way to start; it is not a brief.
