Before You Ask for an OEM Sanitary Pads Quote, Answer One Question First

Before You Ask for an OEM Sanitary Pads Quote, Answer One Question First

A few weeks ago, a young entrepreneur from West Africa sent me a long message on WhatsApp. She was building her own feminine care brand and wanted a mixed pack of sanitary pads: 20 pads in one box, three sizes, three colors — pink for day, green for heavy flow, black for night. Each pad individually wrapped, with a wrapper that doubles as a disposal bag and a resealable outer pouch.

She had done her homework. The message ended with nine questions: MOQ, mixed-size packing, custom wrappers, EXW and FOB pricing, lead times, certifications.

Most people would reply with a price. I replied with a question instead: “What are your sales channels?”

That one question is the difference between a factory that takes orders and a factory that helps you build a brand.

Ask the channel before you ask the price

For a private label sanitary pads project, price doesn’t exist in a vacuum. A brand sold through supermarkets needs a different structure and cost base than one sold through pharmacies or online. If you don’t know the channel, any quote is a guess. I’ve written before about how the channel shapes the pack — here the same logic applies to the quote itself.

Period care products arranged for a range overview
A defined product range is what makes a first OEM quotation meaningful — the channel decides which SKUs matter.

She told me it was a new brand: a small local launch first, then supermarkets, pharmacies and wholesale. Right away I knew this was someone testing the market, budget-conscious, not a big trader placing container orders. For that kind of customer, the priority isn’t the quote. It’s getting the first step right without wasting money.

The cost nobody sees in the mockup

Her three-color idea was sharp. Three colors, three sizes, one identity. But here’s the part that isn’t in the pitch deck: colored base film is made to order, and it’s ordered by the ton — one ton per color, three tons for three colors, with unused material stored at the factory. Custom outer bags carry their own minimum order, and every color adds a plate-making fee.

Three protection levels: regular, heavy and night sanitary pads in pink, green and black
Three protection levels, one pack: regular, heavy and night.

None of this is wrong. It’s just expensive when you haven’t sold a single pack yet.

So I suggested something she hadn’t considered: keep the concept, but test the market first with an existing structure and her own packaging. Postpone the custom film until the demand is proven. I also told her straight that mixed-size packs sell modestly in our home market — better she hears it now than after paying for tooling. Before jumping in, most people should measure the track first.

This is the job of a sanitary pad manufacturer that wants a long-term partner, not a one-off order: we say what the real costs are, even when it means selling less up front.

Studio product shots help alignment, but a quote starts with the sales channel, not the factory.

Sometimes the right answer is a different product

As we talked, I asked if she’d looked at menstrual pants — period underwear that solves night leakage and is growing fast in Asia. She said women in her market tend to be curvier, so I sent samples across the full size range, not just a middle size.

That detail matters more than it looks. Sizing for real bodies is the difference between a product that fits your customer and one that fits a spec sheet. It’s why we don’t just quote what’s asked; we ask what the market actually needs.

A factory that says no is a factory you can trust

The whole conversation came down to one principle: I’d rather help you avoid wasting money than rush to sell you expensive customization. Choosing an OEM sanitary pads partner isn’t about finding the lowest price — it’s about finding someone who will tell you “don’t do that yet” when it’s true.

That’s the standard we hold ourselves to, and the standard you should hold any factory to.

If you’re planning your own feminine care line — sanitary pads, menstrual pants, or both — we’re a factory that does OEM and private label work the way this story describes. Whether you’re a brand or buying sanitary pads wholesale for distribution, tell us your product, sizes, quantity and target market, and we’ll come back with a quote you can actually use.
