Two Kinds of Export Image

Two Kinds of Export Image

Three images in this set do not belong together, which is why we are writing about them. One shows a heavy truck with a container at an industrial site. Two are market visuals with people in local dress holding packs. The first is a logistics record. The others are presentation imagery.

Keeping them apart sounds pedantic until a buyer asks a year later whether a shipment went to a particular market. A photograph of a truck answers a question about loading. It says nothing about where the product was sold.

The question each image can answer

A truck frame can support a dispatch record: a container was at a site on a date. A market visual can support a design discussion: this is how a pack was presented in a proposed visual direction. Neither can answer the other question.

Our team labels the two folders by purpose rather than by country. A market name on a visual file is not evidence of a shipment, and a container number is not a marketing asset.

Why provenance matters in a project file

A private-label project collects a lot of images over several months. Artwork versions, sample photos, loading records and presentation visuals all arrive by email. Without a label on each, the most confident-looking image tends to become the one everybody believes.

We have found that a two-word tag is enough: record or visual. Add a date and the project number, and most later confusion disappears. It takes a few seconds per file.

What a buyer should ask for

When an image is used to support a statement, ask which folder it came from. A loading claim should arrive with a packing list. A design claim should arrive with an artwork version. Neither needs a photograph of the other.

Three images, two purposes. Labelling them separately is a small part of keeping a sourcing project honest.
