A buyer asked me for "period pants like the ones on Instagram" with no other detail. I sent the question back: which spec? Pants aren't a category, they're a stack of choices — and the choice is what decides whether it leaks at hour six. Here's the spec set I'd fix before talking MOQ.
Period pants (disposable menstrual pants) live or die on the SAP load and the waistband, not the photo. Nail those and the private label almost runs itself.
Core specs to fix first
- SAP load. The gram weight of superabsorbent per pant. This is night performance. Cheap pants under-load it and you hear about it in reviews.
- Backsheet. Breathable film costs more than PE but buyers in hot climates feel the difference. Say the market, get the right film.
- Waistband. Soft, stay-put, no roll. The waistband is the most-complained part of a bad pant — ask how they hold it.
- Size grid. A tight 3-size grid (S/M/L) is cheaper than a 6-size spread. More sizes mean more changeovers, not just more SKUs.
MOQ reality for pants
MOQ covers setup: the pant mold, the print plates, the line changeover. A custom-printed retail pack needs a higher floor than plain bulk cartons because there's no plate cost to skip. For a first private-label run, plain cartons at a lower floor let you test; invest in print once the product's proven.
Typical industry starting points vary with pack format and print — your actual floor comes after the spec is fixed, not before. A supplier quoting a hard number with no spec question is guessing or relabeling.
