Sanitary Napkin OEM Customization Solution: From Brief to Bulk Production

2026-06-04

The gap between "I want a custom pad" and a pallet at your door is a sequence of handoffs. Most projects slip at a handoff, not at the factory. If you're planning a custom napkin OEM run, here's how the brief becomes bulk without losing something in translation.

Handoff 1 — brief to spec

Your brief (user, use case, market, regulation) becomes a spec (absorbency, topsheet, SAP grade, length). The risk here is vagueness: "a good pad" can't become a spec. Write the brief like a product, not a wish.

Handoff 2 — spec to sample

The plant builds a pre-production sample to the spec. Approve it on rewet, wing adhesion, and topsheet feel — not on a photo. This handoff is where most "it's not what I wanted" gets prevented or locked in.

Handoff 3 — sample to quote

Handoff 4 — quote to pack proof

The pack is proofed, not just filed. Color, language, barcode, absorbency claim against the test. A proof catches artwork errors a PDF hides. Skip it and the bulk prints the mistake.

Handoff 5 — proof to bulk

With spec, sample, quote, and proof aligned, bulk runs clean. Write QC (in-line + AQL + retained sample) into the PO so the handoff to production holds the standard.

Where projects actually slip

Almost never at the factory's speed. They slip at handoff 2 (no sample sign-off) or handoff 4 (no pack proof). Own those two and the bulk date holds.

Opinion: a customization "solution" is really a chain of clear handoffs. The supplier who makes the handoffs explicit is the one who delivers; the one who mumbles "we'll handle it" is the one who slips.

Questions buyers actually ask

Which handoff matters most?

Sample sign-off (handoff 2). Skip it and bulk locks the wrong product. The proof (handoff 4) is the close second.

Can I change the spec after quoting?

Yes, but it restarts from handoff 1. Lock the brief early; changes are cheaper on paper.

Does Nafei make these handoffs explicit?

Yes — brief to bulk with named inputs and a proof step. Start via contact or the OEM page.

How do I keep the bulk date?

Own sample sign-off and pack proof. Those two handoffs decide the schedule more than line speed.
